Two-row outdoor kitchen in front of the stone wall: fridge and sink against the wall, with a grill island featuring a Broil King in front.
Two rows instead of one: kitchen against the wall, grill in the open
This outdoor kitchen is split into two sections. The back row stands against a wall of rough natural stone and includes a glass-door refrigerator, cabinets and a sink with a white faucet. In front is a second section in the form of an island with a built-in Broil King Regal 520 grill. There’s room on both sides of the grill for plates, glasses and cutting boards, and a stool with a wooden seat stands in front of the island.
The fronts are a light gray-beige, the countertops are light, and the side panel of the island has a concrete look. Against the gray and rust-brown stone, the kitchen looks understated and lets the wall take center stage.
From a large cooking island to an island with a kitchen row
The original plan was for a large cooking island, but it would have taken up too much of the patio. At the showroom, the family was advised to go with the layout you see in the photos: a kitchen row against the wall and an island with a grill in front, facing the pool. This leaves the path across the patio clear. The family fine-tuned the design over two or three showroom visits, at home with the configurator, and using a 3D rendering.
“It really looked exactly like the 3D rendering.”
The kitchen was delivered by freight carrier in sturdy wooden crates, around six to seven weeks after ordering. The family set up and aligned the modules themselves, working in pairs. A carpenter friend handled the fine adjustments on the slightly sloping patio. Setting everything up took around three hours in total.
What changed about grilling
Before, the gas grill was moved back and forth across the patio, and they always had to go back inside for water and grilling supplies. Now, they prepare everything outside: vegetables are washed at the sink, and food for the grill and drinks are kept in the refrigerator. The children sit on the stools at the island and watch, and they grill much more often than before - not just on weekends anymore.
“The absolute game changer for me was simply being able to prep outside. I can put everything I’ve prepared in the fridge, and I even have a drink there that I can grab right away.”
What the layout offers
Movement: The refrigerator and sink are against the wall, while the grill stands freely. Whoever is grilling has the sink behind them and the guests in front.
Heat and smoke: The grill isn't right against the wall; it's on the island out in the open.
Counter space: The island doubles as a workspace and serving area. It's where food is prepared, served, and eaten.
The features in detail
Built-in grill Broil King Regal 520 with a black hood, stainless steel control panel, illuminated knobs, and a dedicated burner for the rotisserie. The cooking surface consists of five cast-iron grate sections that can each be turned over: For fatty meat, the V-shaped side catches the juices instead of letting them drip into the flames, keeping flare-ups small. For lean meat, you turn the grates over. These grates and the accessories, including the rotisserie and plancha plates, were exactly why the family chose the Broil King. With 16 kW of heat output, it easily reaches 350 degrees, and they've even made pizza on it using a pizza stone. Find more built-in grills at Built-in gas grill for the outdoor kitchen.
Conclusion: Room for the cook and guests in a small space
A two-row outdoor kitchen uses a wall or house wall for the appliances and brings the grill to the center. Combine the modules in the Outdoor Kitchen Configurator; find all models at Outdoor Kitchens.
