3 boxes garbage bin box for 120 l and 240 l bins: four models at BIO Stefan
With a 3 boxes garbage bin box, meaning a bin enclosure for 3 bins, general waste, organic waste and paper (or the yellow recycling bag) sit side by side behind a clean front. This 3-bin enclosure fits by the house entrance, along the garden fence or next to the carport. Choose from four ranges: Dagobert in galvanized sheet steel with slats, Alubert in aluminum, Stahlfred in solid, hot-dip galvanized steel, and Holzmichl with a solid spruce wood front in a steel frame.
For three 240 l bins, the box is 208.5 to 222 cm wide, depending on the model; narrower sizes are available for 120 l bins. Except for the Alubert, each model is available with either a hinged lid or a planting roof. All four ranges have a modular design and can later be expanded with additional boxes. 3-bin store for 240 l and 120 l: dimensions at a glance
A garbage bin box for 3 boxes holding 240-liter bins is 208.5 to 222 cm wide, 80 to 83 cm deep, and 121 to 126.5 cm high with the lid, depending on the model. The boxes for three 120-liter bins are narrower: 177 cm for Dagobert, 192 cm for Stahlfred and Holzmichl. Alubert fits 120-liter and 240-liter bins in the same-size unit.
Allow space in front of the box for the doors to open: with the door open at 90 degrees, a 240-liter box needs 144 to 149 cm of depth, depending on the model. If the box with a hinged lid is placed directly against a wall, leave about 4.5 cm of clearance so the lid can open.

Dagobert: first value 240 l size, second value 120 l size. For Stahlfred and Holzmichl the height can be up to 5 cm more with the feet fully unscrewed. The clear inner dimensions per compartment are listed under technical details on each product page.
Robust, weatherproof and extendable: the benefits at a glance
Modularly expandable: All four product lines have a modular design. You can add more boxes to your 3 boxes later and place them side by side.
Durable, weather-resistant materials: Dagobert is made from high-quality, hot-dip galvanized Z225 sheet metal with a 35 µm organic coating (RC4/RUV4 corrosion and UV resistance according to EN 10169); the hinges, latches, and connectors are also galvanized. Stahlfred and Holzmichl are made from robust, hot-dip galvanized steel with a powder coating, while Alubert is made from powder-coated aluminum with stainless steel components (A2).
Soft opening: Gas struts lift the lid on all four models. Stahlfred and Holzmichl also close quietly with impact dampers.
Bin lid opens with the box lid: On Stahlfred and Holzmichl, a chain connects the box lid to the bin lid; the Alubert lid can also be connected to the bin. For Dagobert, the connecting chain is available as an accessory.
Flexible installation: With Dagobert, Stahlfred, and Holzmichl, you can hang the doors to open on the left or right and, if needed, install the lid so you can load it from the back, for example from the garden. With Stahlfred and Holzmichl, the lid can no longer be locked in this configuration.
Delivered flat-packed: All boxes arrive unassembled in flat packs; Stahlfred and Holzmichl come on a pallet (120 x 80 cm).
3 boxes garbage bin box in steel, aluminum or wood: which model is right?
Lots of color options and an airy look: The Dagobert 3 boxes has slats all around and is the only line with a wide range of colors: anthracite, five other colors, and three wood-look fronts (metal with a wood look, not laminate). Lightweight and suited to uneven ground: The Alubert 3 boxes weighs 52 kg and has the greatest foot adjustment range, from 10 to 75 mm. The lock is concealed in the handle, and it comes in three colors. Learn more about the line at aluminum garbage bin box.
Enclosed and lockable: The Stahlfred 3 boxes has a fully enclosed housing (the bottom is open), solid steel doors, and a central lock for the lid and door. If you don’t want to see what’s inside the box and want a lock included as standard, this is the right choice.
Real wood on the front: The Holzmichl 3 boxes combines Stahlfred’s enclosed steel body with front doors featuring a spruce wood insert. Hinged lid or planted roof: which option is right for your 3-box garbage bin box?
The hinged lid opens with gas struts and is available on all four models. Connected to the lid of the garbage bin, it lets you throw away rubbish without pulling the bin out. For Alubert, the lid is the only roof option; a planted roof is not available.
The planted roof is available for Dagobert, Stahlfred and Holzmichl. It is taller than the lid: the 240 l Dagobert measures 132 cm with a planted roof instead of 126.5 cm, while Stahlfred and Holzmichl measure 125.5 cm instead of 122 cm. With 240 l bins, the tilting mechanism on Stahlfred and Holzmichl may not work properly with a planted roof, depending on the bin model, so check your bin dimensions beforehand. Ground and slope: how your 3-bin store stands securely
Concrete slabs or paved surfaces are ideal; soil, gravel or chippings are not recommended according to the product pages. A slight slope is no problem for any of the four models. Alubert, Stahlfred and Holzmichl also level out uneven ground with adjustable feet, while the Dagobert has no adjustable feet and needs ground that is as level as possible.
Steeper slope: the feet only compensate up to the adjustment range stated on the product page. If that is not enough, set up three single boxes in steps instead of one continuous 3-bin store, for example Alubert 1er, Stahlfred 1er, Holzmichl 1er or Dagobert 1er. Do you need a permit for a 3-box garbage bin box?
There’s no general answer for Austria and Germany: this is governed by your state’s building regulations and often your municipality’s development plan. Be sure to check with the building authority in advance, especially if you plan to place it in the front garden, directly on the property line, or anchor it firmly into the ground.
Delivery and assembly
Your 3-box garbage bin box arrives disassembled in flat packs, which, according to the product page, you can also transport in a station wagon. Stahlfred and Holzmichl are delivered on a pallet. You can assemble it yourself using the included instructions: BIO Stefan estimates around 15 minutes per individual Alubert box. Stahlfred and Holzmichl are assembled using press-in threads and metric screws. Please be there for the delivery or arrange for someone to help unload. How wide is a 3-bin store?
For three 240 l bins the Dagobert measures 208.5 cm, the Alubert 209.1 cm, Stahlfred and Holzmichl 222 cm each. For 120 l bins it is 177 cm (Dagobert) or 192 cm (Stahlfred, Holzmichl). Also allow space in front for the open doors: with 240 l you need 144 to 149 cm of depth depending on the model.
Do 120-litre bins fit into a 3-bin store for 240 litres?
Yes. According to the product pages, 120 l bins also fit into the 240 l boxes. With the Dagobert you need the connecting chain accessory so the bin lid opens automatically. The Alubert takes 120 l and 240 l bins in the same size, and Stahlfred and Holzmichl also take 90 l bins in the 240 l box.
Can I combine 120 l and 240 l bins in one row?
Yes. Dagobert boxes in 120 l and 240 l can be combined side by side. For Stahlfred and Holzmichl there are dedicated combination models for mixed rows, see combinations of 120 l and 240 l.
Which 3-bin store can be locked?
Stahlfred and Holzmichl come with a central lock for lid and door. The Dagobert has a toggle latch as standard, and a key lock set for lid and door is available as an accessory (for Dagobert from model year 2023). On the Alubert the latch is integrated in the handle, but it cannot be locked.
Is the 3-bin store available with a planter roof?
Yes, for Dagobert, Stahlfred and Holzmichl you can choose a planter roof instead of the lid. The box then gets taller: Dagobert 240 l 132 cm, Stahlfred and Holzmichl 125.5 cm. The Alubert only comes with the lid. See all models under bin stores with planter roof.
Which colours are available for the 3-bin store?
The Dagobert has the widest choice: anthracite (RAL 7016), black, silver, grey aluminium, light grey, brown and three wood-look fronts (Golden Oak, Winchester, Dark Oak, all metal with a wood look). The Alubert comes in anthracite, black and grey aluminium. Stahlfred and Holzmichl can be ordered in anthracite (RAL 7016).
Is there a stainless steel 3-bin store?
BIO Stefan does not offer a stainless steel model. Dagobert, Stahlfred and Holzmichl are made of galvanised, coated steel, the Alubert of powder-coated aluminium with stainless steel (A2) parts.
Can I set up a 3-bin store on a slope?
A slight slope is no problem for any of the four models. Alubert, Stahlfred and Holzmichl level out uneven ground with adjustable feet, while the Dagobert needs ground that is as level as possible. If the adjustment range on the product page is not enough, set up three single boxes in steps.
Can I extend my 3-bin store later?
Yes, all lines are modular, so you simply add more boxes. If you already own a BIO Stefan box, send the order number or a photo to office@bio-stefan.at and you will get an offer for the matching extension.

Caring for your garbage bin box 3 boxes
All four product lines are designed to require little maintenance; the product pages describe them as low-maintenance or maintenance-free. For Alubert, Stahlfred, and Holzmichl, touch up small scratches with the touch-up paint pen in the color of your box. The spruce wood front of the Holzmichl can be oiled or painted, and you can replace the wood inserts if needed.
